WHAT MAKES A LIBRARY?
![]()
Is it the physical building, the books, the DVD's, the computers, the friendly staff, the programs? What makes a library a good one?
In a rural setting with a part-time librarian, programs are limited and selection of books/other media can be limited. So what can we offer?
What I see every day are the wonderful people of all ages who connect with each other at the Library. The new mom who just moved here connects with a senior woman or another young mom. Teens connect with adults they do not normally encounter. Kids are watched over lovingly by adults they don't know (yet).
Reading is great and I am all for it. However, look at what else happens here. People offer each other gardening advice. Local politics gets discussed. Loose dogs and developers are equally scrutinized. People ask kids how they are doing at the school. Community is knit together at the Library.
